Drug Addiction and its Myths

Drug Addiction is nothing but a lost-control craving - when your brain loses the control of stopping you right in the tracks. When one looks at drug addiction from this point of view, dealing with the stigma associated becomes somewhat easier. Drug abuse can be curbed and can also be effectively cured with drug addiction rehabilitation programs. In this article you will find several basic facts about drug addiction rehab and some myths surrounding it, busted.

Drug addiction is not just a question of willpower. An addict cannot simply stop by telling himself; drug abuse has already altered his brain in such a way that depriving himself causes adverse reactions to his body. If he could stop, it is not addiction - it is controlled use.

Drug addiction occurs when a person loses control of his need for drugs. Doctor prescribes two teaspoons of the syrup, and we are not able to refrain ourselves from downing the whole 100ml. This lack of control causes the brain to modify itself, as a result of which, reduction in the intake of those drugs causes panic attacks called withdrawal symptoms. Drug addiction rehab is known to effectively curb the desire for drugs and with sustained care addicts can go back to leading normal healthy lives - the shady past remains in the shade for ever.

Drug addiction rehab basically constitutes 3 stages:

- Detoxification where the body is stabilized after drug intake is stopped,

- Rehabilitation where the patient is treated with medication as well as with therapy to reduce the urge to take drugs. and finally

- sustained care where the patient goes for regular therapy and counseling so as to stay clear from a relapse.

No known drug addiction rehab program completely cures a patient of addiction. This is just a means of help, to be coupled with the patients on desire to recover, and thus, refraining from drugging again. Scientific drug addiction rehab, however, has effectively curbed the urge to use drugs among addicts.

Drug Rehab - Want it Or Not, It'll Work

There are certain popular myths surrounding drug addiction rehab and I am here to shatter them! One of the most believed myths about drug addiction rehab is that the patient should want to be treated in order to be able to get better. This however has been found to be false. Research has proved that addicts who have been forced into drug addiction rehab due to their profession or by their family recover just as well as patients who go in for drug addiction rehab voluntarily. Strange? Thats how the whole life is!

Another common myth surrounding drug addiction rehab is that an addict needs to hit rock bottom before he can effectively be cured of his addiction. This is as far from the truth as can be. In reality, the sooner an addict goes in for drug addiction rehab the easier it is for him to kick the addiction.

Love yourself, break the rife - curb the urge, get a life!
